An earth leakage clamp meter is typically used to measure excessive earth leakage current in a system, usually indicative of electrical faults, but due to the small amounts of current (usually milliamps), they can often be overlooked when using a typical AC/DC clamp meter. As such, an earth leakage clamp meter can help track down the cause of nuisance tripping RCD's whilst also complying with the testing criteria of earth leakage within new installations as published in BS7671.
